Wallet taken in hotel room

I was a "guest" at the hotel on Saturday 21 Sept 2013. On check out on Sunday morning I packed up and took my bags to my vehicle. There I realised that I had left my wallet in the bathroom of my room. I went back to the room and found that housekeeping lady was already in the room. I checked for my wallet but could not find it. Housekeeping lady said she had not seen it. I am absolutely sure the wallet was left in the bathroom. When I eventually got hold of the owner, Mrs Rossouw, on Monday she said that she was not prepared to do anything to help me and won't question her staff, that was also why she didn't want to take my call. She said that what must she do if everyone starts telling her that they had forgotten things in the rooms. She was very rude and abrupt and told me to do what I wanted and she has other businesses also! All I wanted was for her to let her staff know that I know my wallet was in the room and I wanted my cards back because I knew the money would be gone, R2000.00. Isn't it policy for hotel staff to hand in anything found in the rooms to management? Especially since I had greeted housekeeping lady on my out and she knew who I was.
