Non payment of hospital account

I gave birth at Mediclinic Hospital in 15 November 2012 and applied for a birth certificate at Home affairs. My son's birth certificate was incorrectly recorded as 15/10/2012 instead of 15/11/2012. I have since applied for an amendment in 18 December 2012 and was informed that the certificate may be issued with in five months. I then went to gems offices in Arcadia (PTA) on the same day and submitted a proof of birth from Mediclinic and an affidavit from the police station. Up to date, I have not yet received any feed back from the medical aid, I made a follow up again this morning (Ref no: MH49346790) and was informed that the documents that I have submitted have not yet been forwarded to the membership department and my inquiry has not yet been dealt with. In the mean time, Mediclinic has been calling me every day to enquire about payment and have even suggested that I have to pay them instead. I received a confirmation of the hospital booking before I gave birth, I was on the maternity plan. Surely the medical aid knows I gave birth on the 15th Nov 2012 instead of 15 Oct 2012. This has become a stressful situation for me as I cannot afford the hospital bill.
