Medihelp do not want to cover me

I contacted a Medihelp Broker on 23 May 2013 regarding a quotation on a alternative medical aid options. On the brokers recommendation Medihelp offered the most competitive options that suited the needs of me and my family. I accepted the quotation and returned it with all of the relevant documentation complete.

I was then informed that Medihelp would not offer me cover based on an outstanding amount owed by my ex-husband from sometime in 2007.
1) The medical aid was taken out by my ex-husband's name on 2/11/2006 and I was listed only as a dependent. My ex-husband was responsible for payments and or any other legalities thereof. The contract was between Medihelp and Mr... We were not married at the time of inception of the contract.
2) I was listed as a dependent under my maiden name,
3) We were married on 17/3/2007
4) My surname was never changed/updated to correspond with my ex-husband's
5) I divorced my husband on 18/11/2008
Why am I being held liable for debt that I was not responsible for and beyond my control? Why, if you did hold me accountable was I never contacted (when you have all relevant measures in place to obtain my contact details)
