NO HELP AT ALL!!!

I was retrenched last year, currently in a temp position. I defaulted on my subscription for May 2013 and my membership was suspended. I phoned Discovery Health to seek advice on what my options are as I cannot afford not to have medical aid. I requested to downgrade to a lower plan but was told I cannot until the arrears of R3241 is paid and if I do not pay that at the end of June my membership will be cancelled and I will not be able to join for 90 days. I am on chronic medication and cannot take the risk of being without a medical aid. I wrote an e-mail to Discovery to ask if there is not any other way of assisting me, to which I have still had no reply.
Big was the surprise when I received a sms from my bank showing an amount of R6482 being deducted from my account! For April arrears and May that I did not even have a service!!! Please, please explain to me how do you think I am able to afford this if I could not even afford halve???
What is happening with service in South Africa? Does being a loyal member for years not count for anything anymore? Is it "kick the dog while it's lying down? " What must I do to get any assistance or help form Discovery?
