Oyster Box Hotel
Very low quality food for a 5* Hotel Restaurant

Health & Medicine

Last night my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to an expensive dinner at the Terrace restaurant at the magnificently positioned, Oyster Box Hotel. There really aren't any outstanding stand alone restaurants in Durban other than what you would expect from a 5* hotel, so we expected high prices but in return a quality meal.

My husband had the curry buffet at R240 but was disappointed to see only curry dishes, no salads or veg and no Indian deserts like Sogie or Ice cream. Surely a buffet should include a small selection of those things?

After quizzing the friendly but clearly inexperienced waiter, he confirmed that the Lamb Shank was meaty so i ordered it. It arrived after only 5 minutes and I genuine felt like I had been served a bowl of food resembling that you would put in front of a dog, complete mush for R165. The bone was almost meatless, the mash was runny and had dissolved into a bowl or gravy. When I complained to the Restaurant Manager, his attitude was that of someone who did not care nor apologies. I then ordered fish and chips and was served with almost fish-less batter and deep friend frozen chips for R140.. Needless to say 5* obviously means nothing!
