Bonitas
False Information

Health & Medicine

After my wife has been to our GP, she was referred to a specialist. I was then informed that the consultation fee of R1080 at the specialist needs to be paid upfront even though I have medical aid. a Bonitas consultant told me that I need'nt worry as nor me nor my wife have been to see a specialist in 2013 so we still have limits available and the consultation fee will be refunded in full. After spending R800 on fuel as we need to drive from Graaff-Reinet to Port Elizabeth, we got an sms from Bonitas infoming us that they will only refund R287.We phoned them to find out why and the answer was they do not cover the code 5109 which was for a scan/sonar R580 and could not explain why they havent paid the entire consultation fee of R485. I sent them an email on 21 May 2013 and still no reply. How can they tell you one thing and then do the complete opposite? Their consultants is incompetent and their brochures is miss leading! What happens if there is a pregnancy, will they then not cover the scans/sonars? Why do I pay for medical aid? Why have I not been informed of the limits and codes that are not covered before my wife went to see the specialist? This is totally unacceptable!
