Discovery Health-who makes these crazy decisions?

I had a back operation recently and even before I was wheeled to the operating theatre, I was issued with 'embolism prevention' stockings and a back brace. Post op both items were worn daily as they were essential to the recuperation process. It was nigh impossible to walk without the brace. I received an account from the orthotics company showing that the stockings had been covered by Discovery Medical AID (?) but the back brace had not. These were issued in the hospital, why are they not covered in terms of a Hospital Plan? Now seriously, could you tell me who decided on this discrepancy - the back brace has been absolutely essential for recuperation. The stockings were discarded after a week. I am flummoxed and would very much like to hear from someone on the Discovery Health review board, one of their actuaries, or whoever makes these decisions, to explain the cockeyed, non-sensical reasoning for this. They sit in their ivory towers playing, making these decisions with only the bottom line in mind, with no thought for their members' wellbeing or pockets. They work for a medical AID company, where's the AID? Has any of them had a back operation I wonder?
