Elsat locks client into a contract

I moved into my complex in May 2012. After purchasing my HD PVR decoder I was told that I would have to rent the dish from Elsat. R80 pm for a standard connection and R160 pm for the Twin LNB PVR connection.

I chose the R160 pm option.

Towards the end of last year I was informed that I would be transferring jobs, as such I have to move to a new location. I cancelled my DSTV subscription with no fuss whatsoever.

Elsat refuses to cancel my contract - and continue to debit my account for R160 every month even though I called to inform them that I do not require their services.

I am not shirking my responsibility to pay the agreed upon amount. However, if one no longer requires the services on offer, and is no longer going to be at the location in question, they cannot expect them to keep paying them for this service.

Is this not the reason The Consumer Protection Act came into play?

I am paying R160 per month to rent a dish that I am currently not getiing any signal on because Elsat refuses to treat their customers as amicably as DSTV does.

I am appalled by this.
