International warranty not valid internationally

Electronics and household app.

I've bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 the 14th of Jan 2014 from Orange South Africa. A week after I got it I noticed the headphone jack is faulty. I contact Orange SA and they refer me to the Samsung smart service center in Century City CPT. I went there today and they said the can't service my phone under warranty cause it's an international one. Nevertheless it has a 1-year international warranty. So I don't understand: a manufacturer can sell faulty phones with warranty and then refuse to repair at all. Is this actually legal?? Although I'm a loyal Samsung customer (third phone in a year), I'm very disillusioned with Samsung at the moment. This complete lack of service is unseen and will definitely make me reconsider to buy Samsung again. One of my friends recently bought a faulty Apple Iphone, they came and collected it the same week and he immediately got a replacement... different worlds...
