Nikon
New lens 'up to factory standard' yet poor images

Electronics and household app.

I replaced a damaged 16-85 vr lens with a new one 3 weeks ago. The old lens was excellent, the new everything but. All images shot at widest focal range (16mm) show an obvious dark left corner. This is the case at all but extremely small apertures.

As I do a lot of photography at 16mm this is a major problem. I took the new lens to Nikon n Samrand and they claim that this is normal. No way! This is despite the fact that I have never had this before even on the cheapest of zoom lenses and that the error is blatantly obvious even to novices. Extreme vignetting in just one corner at almost all apertures.

Yet according to Nikon Samrand this is 'up to factory standard'. I strongly disagree. The lens is useless to me. If I cannot use 16mm the much cheaper 18-105 would have done. I have read many reviews on the 16-85vr and none of the reviews point to severe vignetting in just the top left corner.

Being the owner of several Nikon, Sigma and Canon lenses I strongly disagree with you 'factory stadard'. A Bottom of the range P&s will do better.

Please up your standards.
