Exorbitant Charges for what was actually done

I contracted this company to perform an electrical ssessment of a property I have sold with a view to obtain an Electrical Compliance Certificate.

On completion of the assessment I was advised that my property was not compliant and I was provided with a list of repairs to be completed totaling almost R10, 000-00. Foolishly I accepted their quote on the spot.

In addition to the R969-00 which I was charged for the assessment I was charged just under R10, 000-00 for what turned out to be 4.5 hrs of work to:
- replace 3 down-lighters
- earth 3 ceiling-light fittings
- replace a conduit cover in the roof
- replace a switch on the DB board
- replace a bathroom light (with the light fitting being supplied separately by me)

In hindsight I would urge any other customers to ask for a detailed report of the repairs which needed to be done (split into labour & materials charges) & get a quote from another electrician to determine if this is a fair price or not before you sign up for them to perform the repairs.
