Electrical Compliance Certificate

Why is it that the Electrical Contractors Board Says that it is OK for an Electrical Contractor to issue a Electrical Compliance Certificate if the Seller asks him to do so. I have been caught once too many times when I have been issued an "Electrical Compliance Certificate" when I bought a house only to find out that this was not worth the paper it was written on when I sell the property. This time it is Alcocks Electrical in KZN. They issued a certificate on ONE of the buildings on the property when I bought the property and now when I ask for a certificate when I sell the property I am charged an exorbitant amount of money to make the entire property compliant.

The Electrical Contractors Board says that this is done all the time and the Electrical Contractor is doing what the seller has asked him to do.

Now down the line I have to pay and there is no recourse.

Please Beware. When you are buying a property make sure that the seller has not taken you to the cleaners and make sure the certificate is valid and covers the whole property.
