BEWARE! Stay away

Richard North was paid 60% deposit to renovate our bathroom. The job was supposed to last 12 days. On the first day he said that our copper pipes were too old (20 years) and had to be replaced. He also said that our geysers were connected incorrectly. He asked for R12, 000 on top of the quote.

I denied as we have not had leaks and problems with the geysers. On day 2 he said that he insisted on doing the two extra jobs and I denied again. On day 3 I said that he must discuss it with my husband as he obviously didn't value my input. Before we agreed to ANYTHING, he removed our copper pipes and cut it into small pieces FORCING us to replace the pipes. He said that he will leave the premises if we get a second quote as "the plumbers are like a mafia". He attempted to take it with him when he left. I got a second opinion on the geysers and according to the person, there was absolutely no problem with them.

On day 4 he said that he agree to drop to R9, 000, but he wanted it in CASH and would not carry on with anything else until he has been paid this amount. He would not accept EFT. We decided to terminate his services - losing money - as we could not trust him or his opinion.
