Cowboy builder: be warned

Builder contracted via architect to extend small bathroom, refurbish garage extension. Paid him cash for materials. Work started, stopped, builder not on site to supervise. Cut through mains electricity, water pipe, alarm cable, telephone line all by accident. Left live wires. Very shoddy work, left unfinished, unable to reach builder by phone. House left unattended and open. Chimney flue not fitted as per agreement. New room flooded as gutter not fixed or sealed. Other room flooded as pipe joint not tight. New floor spoiled, costs now piling up. Builder demands more cash tho contract stipulates cash on completion. Snag list ignored, as are calls, sms. Excuses: cat to vet, bruised chin, strained groin, rain, away in CT (but seen locally). We left with incomplete jobs. Now need to employ others and pay to get work done. Work shd have taken three wks. Now since 11 March, empty promises and downright.
