Volkswagen
VW TSI time bomb – engine failure!!!

Cars & Transport

I purchased a 2010 VW Scirocco 1.4 TSI from a Vw Mastercar dealership in Nov 2012 for my wife. At the time of purchase the vehicle was on 42 000km.

I was driving the vehicle after 3 months of ownership, when out of the blue, the on board computer popped up messages such as Warning: Check engine now and the EPC light came on. The vehicle was towed the next day to a VW dealership and after extensive fault finding it was discovered that one of the pistons broke off

WOW, was my response in amazement. I have NEVER heard of a car breaking a piston after (at that time 44 495km). The dealership ordered a new engine from PE, which was fitted at a cost of R88 000 - covered by the warranty). After researching the TSI engine online, I found my problem is not isolated.

Firstly, what was going to be my position if the engine failed a few months later once the vehicle is out of warranty? I certainly cannot afford a bill of R88 000.

Secondly, Vw have fitted a new engine to my wife's Scirocco, but the vehicles warranty expires soon, leaving me with no confidence in reliability of this new engine. Whats going to happen should the new engine fail?

Disappointed loyal VW owne
