Rip off with tyres -pays not to be honest

Cars & Transport

Hired a car from Thrifty car hire, Durban for our son. Flew in from Cape Town picked the car up, drove to the KZN Midlands, 2 days later he returned to the airport. Drove to the guest house and back to airport only. Overnight the tyre went flat. Took the tyre off the car, then to Hi Q in Nottingham road, they said the tyre had only 2mm tread left on it and put a mushroom plug into the puncture as they always do on all hired vehicles. On the return of the car our son said he had had a puncture and got billed for a new Tyre plus admin fees a few days later. No one told our son that they were debiting his card. Jackie van Wyk depot manager said we would not get charged. Adriaan Pillay Claims Administrator charged us. Jackie told Adriaan to do a credit. Credit in Joburg turned it down. If there was a new tyre on the car the possibility of a puncture was minimal. Due to the 2 mm tread on the tyre and not the usual 8mm he picked up a puncture on the road. All people hiring from Thrifty need to know they use tyres with 2mm tread on, hope you have a puncture then charge you for a new tyre. Nice business they have as people who hire the cars are paying for new tyres for them
