Billing rip off

Cars & Transport

In November 2013 I hired a car, unbeknown to me I got a speeding fine. I received an sms from Europcar on 5 February at 15h57 saying "A traffic fine was incurred on Europcar. An admin fee of R190 may be levied. Please go to [URL Removed] to view. On viewing the fine I noticed that I could only pay online giving my bank details. Being wary of disclosing bank details decided to do a direct deposit the next morning 6/2 into the bank account of the traffic authority who issued the fine. The intention was to forward proof of payment to Europcar, Upon checking my mails on 6/2 to my dismay I had a invoice from Europcar for the R190 admin fee. I am SO NOT impressed. This morning I was told this is standard practice as they advise the authority of my details then its not their problem anymore? WHY did Europcar receive the fine 5 December 2013 and not give me the opportunity to pay the fine BEFORE the due date. Why did I only get an sms on 5 February? Why should I pay my fine through another company Cancom that levies a fee and I don't have proof of payment - WHY was I not given the courtesy of an option to pay the fine myself? Now it appears the fine is paid twice
