Joining confirmation received, assistance refused

Cars & Transport

I joined the AA via their website on 10 November 2013 and received a confirmation sms with my membership number on 12th Nov. On Friday 15th my car wouldn't start &I just needed a jump start. I called the AA with my membership number &was told they couldn't help, I needed to fork out R1200 for someone to come out &jump start my car as my debit order hadn't come off yet (1Dec).
Surely if I get a welcome message and a membership number I should be covered, but the AA refused to budge &wouldn't pro-rata November's fee (which is standard practice in most service organizations and a shocking lack of proper administration from the AA's side). On top of that I'm supposed to be covered by AA by having an FNB garage account - which for some technicality didn't cover getting a jump start (thanks a lot FNB&AA).
So despite being doubly covered via AA membership &FNB garage card the AA left me stranded &tried to extort R1200 on technicalities - this is shocking I can't believe you get away with this. All I needed was a jump start!
If you're reading this be warned - the AA is clearly not committed to their customers &are just out to make a quick buck&breach contracts with technicalities!
