Budget Rent A Car
Pensioner being shafted by Budget Car Rental

After my bakkie was the insurance company IUM advised that I could use a rental car. They gave me a nice Toyota corolla there was some confusion of when the car needed to be back but they said I would be informed by the instance company. When I took the car back they were upset as they said it was 3 days late! Then they started checking the car with a fine tooth comb, and they said they found hail damage! I could hardly see that they were talking about. It was not noticeable to a nonprofessional eye. I knew I had close to the tail of a storm but did not think the car was hit. They gave me a hard time, I just wanted to get out of there. They even said because the car was so dusty I would need to pay for a valet - I live on a farm! So I signed all the forms they wanted me to and left.

Only when I got home did I realise that when I took the car it was not properly checked (NOT the way it was checked when I took it back). Was the "damage" done before I took the car? I think it was there all the time but cannot be sure. Today my son told me they sent him the bill: R5629.99 (valet, Excess, Claim fee, extra days and additional fuel charge)

Out of principle I don't want to pay
