Automobile Association
AA's Restrictive pricing and reluctancy to reply

Cars & Transport

On 23 September 2013, I sent them an email to express my disappointment regarding below matter. To this day I have not received any feedback from them at all. See (shortened) email I sent below:

Good day.

Recently my fiancee and I purchased a used car at a dealership. After picking up some problems, a friend suggested we do AA's 101-point check.

I contacted the AA N1 City branch for an appointment. After the lady I spoke to explained, it was clear that a Tech test is the right one. When I queried about the price, it sounded like a Leon Schuster phone prank:

About R1610.00 for a Tech test of around 2 hours.
About R 684.00 for a 101-point test of around 30min (incl. certificate).
About R 460.00 for a 101-point test of around 30min (excl. certificate).

As the Automobile Association of South Africa, aren't you supposed to know and consider that those costs make it nearly impossible for the majority of South Africans to afford to have their vehicles thoroughly checked and tested? It's disappointing. I can't fork out R1610.00 just like that & I'm not the only one.

If you make it affordable for all vehicle-owners, it's already 1 step closer to safer roads for all. Isn't it logical?
