R250 to add a driver for one day?

My wife and I were in Cape Town for two weeks recently and hired a car from Budget for the entire period. I was the only driver, save for one day when my wife had to drive to Stellenbosch. I went to Budget's branch in the city bowl to add my wife as a driver for that one day, which they duly did.

Imagine my surprise when I get the bill, and see that R250 was charged to add an additional driver (same age as me) for ONE DAY! It would have cost less to rent her another car for the day! First of all, what a rip-off. Second of all, could the person assisting me not have told me this?

We'll be back in CT for a further 3 weeks in October, and three more times for similar periods next year. We'll be renting a car for every single day we're there (about 40 days in total). Suffice it to say it will not be from Budget Rent a Ca
