Steering Column Replacement - Major flaw!!

Cars & Transport

I have this problem with my BMW that I purchased last year October. I couldn't afford to take an extended BMW warranty but instead took one with SA warranties. I get a warning light (electric steering lock Malfunction) this past Thursday. Took it Auto Alpina Boksburg BMW on this past Friday and apparently I need to book the car in and worst case is a steering column replacement which cost around R9 -10000. My warranty mite cover only R1500. After researching this and trying to find an alternate way, I see that this was one of BMW's flaws in the E90 series mainly. I have the 2007 325i E90. I don not have the money to do this and if the steering does eventually lock I will have no choice but to park it off. I don't have R10000 lying around.

I am shocked that BMW (a well built and quality designed vehicle) would actually not do a good will repair on this as it isn't something that is told to someone when a vehicle is purchased. Was it intentional who knows? But something that is a flaw on their part should be catered for by the Manufacturers. Seems like owning a BMW isn't worth it without a motor plan and not every! of us can afford R35000 to extend the m/plan for just a year!
