Rented a Polo from Budget. Took the "Super" insurance cover. On returning the car, windscreen was cracked. The crack appeared to be caused by heat (which the employee inspecting the car admitted 'happened quite often) as there was no chip or other damage that could have been caused by road damage. Budget has since deducted R5022.36 from Cr card for "damage". I contacted PG in Umhlanga Rocks and the cost, with VAT and fitting (they will come out to car) is R2784.48. So the charges are excessive at best and at worst, . Also, the R5K was deducted from Cr card before the R3500 was returned (about a WEEK later!) Why not bill the difference? What about the "super cover" insurance that was paid for? Should I not be paying excess only - or a nominal amount and not almost twice what a new windscreen actually costs to replace? Staff were arrogant and dismissive when dealing with my fianc? So I am taking it up. I would like a very prompt and proper response or civil and possible criminal charges could result - as attitude and indiscriminate billing appears to be more racketeering than legitimate business behaviour.
