Wire found in food, disgusting restaurant response

After ordering two sodas, my partner & I ordered a mushroom starter to share. My partner bit down on something hard, injuring his gum, & found a 2mm piece of wire 2cm in length in his food. This was shocking & disgusting, and potentially very dangerous. On complaining to the managers, we received only terribly unconcerned attitudes, with no attempt to compensate for what had occurred. In fact, their tone become completely accusatory when they repeatedly (& aggressively) insisted that they do not use such wire in their kitchen & did NOT know where it had come from. There was blatant allusion that we had, in fact, placed this object in our own food. Upon requesting if our two sodas might as least be on the house as compensation, we received only the rude reply "Well, how many drinks have you had? " This was very clearly a suggestion that we had planted the object as a means of getting a free meal & drinks. (Why would we choose to do this after two sodas & a starter?). As a couple, & as part of a wider family, we have been regulars at this restaurant for over 4 years, spending thousands. We were so upset by the way we were treated that we left and had a meal elsewhere. Horrific!
