First National Bank
Account Closure

Business & Finance

As I now reside in the UK I recently attempted to close my FNB cheque account 50460053991at the Cresta branch. As I do not use the Account it is a waste of money with the monthly service charge. I was informed that the current months service charge amounted to R27 and would need to be paid before I could close the account. This was fine, however I was staggered to find out that I would need to pay an addtional R20 cash deposit fee in order to pay the R27 bank charge. So FNB expect me to pay an additional R20 in order for me to pay the service fee of R27 to close my account. I asked what would happen if I didn't pay and just left the account unused and was advised it would become dormant but I would have to pay outstanding fees if I ever used FNB again. So instead of paying the R27 and R20 deposit fee I will just be leaving the account and foregetting about it and if I do ever return to SA will just use another bank. Rather silly though that I have to pay to close my account but will just let it become dormant instead at what I assume is a greater expense to FNB!
