TRAVEL GUARD CHARTIS TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS

While in Vietnam last month I contracted a very serious bout of viral enteritis and had to delay my return home. I immediately phoned the "emergency" call centre of Travel Guard Chartris with whom I had a travel "assistance" policy bought through Nedbank American Express card. I made 8 calls to the help line, spoke to 4 different people all of whom promised they would arrange accommodation and flights home for me. I spent 4 agonising hours sitting in the foyer of the hotel at which I had been staying but had to move out due to their being fully booked, waiting for Travel Guard Chartris to return my calls. Eventually I had to arrange the flight home & accommodation myself. They have settled the claim however after 3 e-mails & numerous phonecalls in which I was assured I would be contacted by a senior person at the SA branch of Travel Guard Chartris I have not heard a word - INDICATIVE OF THE APPALLING SERVICE THIS COMPANY GIVES
SURELY THE POINT OF TAKING TRAVEL INSURANCE IS TO KNOW THAT ONE WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF IN TIMES OF EMERGENCY OR ILLNESS? TRAVEL GUARD CHARTIS DID NOT DO THIS FOR ME - IN FACT THEY LEFT ME IN THE LURCH. AVOID IF YOU EXPECT ASSISTANCE
