Debit of unauthorized amount from account

I had sent an email canceling my insurance with them on the 5th March 2013 and there was no response from them. I then sent another email staying that should they not respond, I will take their non response as confirmation.
Now this morning, I receive an SMS of a debit order from them. How do they completely ignore me and then go ahead take money from my account?

This is a follow up/reminder letter of the e-mail I sent to you last week. Since I have heard no response from you, I would like to further reiterate that I am canceling my insurance cover with you. My last day of cover is 31 March 2013.

If I do not hear from you within 24 hours, I will take your non response as confirmation of this cancellation.
