Bad service and ripping off the pensioners

My mom, a 74 year old pensioner who has difficulty in walking, had a savings account at ABSA for the sole purposes of getting her pension fund transferred. She also subscribed to Internet banking for the sole purpose of transferring the pension money out on a monthly basis. Since SASSA has now issued cards, I took my mother to ABSA in Norwood on Sat 09 Mar to close her account as it is no longer required. The account balance at the time per internet was R2.75 credit. Imagine my disgust when we were told that my mom had to pay in R19.20 for internet usage fee. I explained that we were closing account and was happy to pay pro-rata as used it on 04 Mar. it was mentioned that the bank is unable to reverse this fee. I then asked to escalate to, which was done and on Tues 12 Mar got a call to say that if we want to close the account we had to pay R19.20. This is pure thievery of the bank, since they losing the account they want to milk the pensioner as much as possible. On 16 Mar the account was closed after paying the R19.20 and at great inconvenience to my mom who had to go into the bank again. I will most definitely not recommend ABSA. The fees are absolutely shocking!
