What a load of hogwash

I was in Madagascar and tried to pay my Hotel bill with my Credit card. After the first attempt it said "Declined"
I then proceeded to put the card in again and it said reading the information then "declined". I phoned my personal banker and she said the reason they gave for the declined status was that I put the wrong pin in 3 times. Ok Back in South Africa I went to the ATM tested the card and it was fine and I could draw some money. Getting to the office today I phoned my Personal banker who then told me that the 5 digit pin that you have in South Africa is not valid overseas and that one digit falls away... Hello... and I should know this???
What a rediculous system. I want to warn people that when you go overseas contact your bank and tell them / ask them all the rules required for you to do transactions.
