If I had know... maybe i would not have

A car came out of nowhere and crashed into me, he accepted full responsibility for the accident and all was good. I only found out today that because of that, I will have to pay my own excess (takes 3 months - 3 years to get that back) and I will now lose my OutBonus. This is not a CLAIM i am putting in?? It is a claim against his insurance. Why is it then that even though i pay such a huge premium that i feel i got here?
