Card doesnt swipe for over a year!!!

I was advised to change my account from a student achiever to an elite plus because I had started working. I luckily didn't close my student account and had these 2 linked because all my banking was with the student account. I noticed the new card always declined despite it having money in it. I had to always transfer money from the student acc to the new one, which was too much admin. After I reported this I was given 2 identical cards, same number everything, was advised to discard of the one. After having issues with keeping up with my student achiever with it being in the negatives, I decided to close it because keeping up with my banking was a total nightmare. Now im stuck with a card that doesn swipe and constantly have to keep money on me to avoid the inconvinience and embarrassment. This has gone on for too long and I'm considering switching banks.
