Why bother to put a stop orde

On the 10th of Dec i went into the Eastgate branch to put a stop order on a debit order for a Company that has no idea what they doing. I paid R 45.00 for it but for peace of mind i thought it was safer. Now on the 01st of Feb I see Brightrock managed to debit my account again. How on earth does this stop order work? If it works at all!
