Changing your surname becomes a nightmare

Business & Finance

Recently moved to Cape Town and got married so was trying to change my surname at the bank. On my first visit was told that I need proof of residence but not having any at the time told that I could bring either my husband with his ID with (then and currently he's in Jhb on business) or a copy of our rental agreement, just to ensure that each page is initialed and signed by all parties. This morning after standing in a long queue for more than half an hour I got to a cashier whom didn't really know how to do it and told me that he could not use the copy of rental agreement at all, I needed the front page to be the original. Are you serious ABSA bank, this was my third visit and still no change, even cell c only needed my marriage certificate, ID and copy of agreement to have my details changed on their system. Guess I'll have to wait for my first account from them and print the billing and email as proof of residence, as I was now told this can also be used, an email!
