First National Bank
UNLAWFUL DEBIT DATE

Business & Finance

FNB attempted to debit my Bond instalment on 24 January 2014, while my signed contract clearly states that the debit date is the 25th of each month (the day on which I receive my salary). I now have a record of an unsuccessful debit attempt and this will lead to bank charges. During December I received an SMS asking me to confirm my debit date as people are paid earlier in December. i replied that my date should remain the 25th, yet they still deducted the money on 24 December (luckliy in December I had the funds in my account, but in January I did not). My contract with them is clear. If there was any other provision stating that they may debit me earlier then that was not pointed out to me as per the Consumer Protection Act. I want FNB to contact me and confirm that they will never attempt to debit me early again and that NO BANK FEES for the unsuccessful debit will be charged. Should I not get a call by close of business Monday, 27 Jan 2014 I will refer this to the banking ombudsman and my rights are fully reserved to recover any damages suffered.
