I have been a client of Absa since I opened my first account back in high school. I had numerous accounts: personal savings, cheque, 32 deposit accounts, student credit card and a small-business account. I have paid fees to Absa on all these accounts, and have always been in a good credit standing. However, Absa has always denied me benefits (including a credit card in order to activate a garage card for my business) and more recently when applying for a bond on a property they denied me as their own client, whilst other banks gave me offers for a mortgage bond (Absa claimed insufficient affordability, whilst that is truly not the case, as the other banks did give me bond offers).

Bottom line is that Absa only cares about sucking the client dry on fees, whilst providing nothing of true benefit for the client. Needless to say, over time, I have moved my personal accounts to other banks and will soon be moving my small-business account to another bank as well. Enough is enough.

If you choose to bank with Absa, prepare to be used.
