I have had numerous issues with Standard Bank over the last few years. In the past I have had an account opened without my knowledge which totally threw me however I decided to give them another chance due to the hassle of moving accounts.

I have now moved to Prestige Banking and the issues are slowly cropping up. It started off well but now I received automated messages and no further feedback. I wait forever for a response and I am now receiving notifications to collect a credit card from the local post office which account should have been closed months ago on my instruction. It was confirmed by my private banker that the account was in fact closed.

When I finally took it upon myself to deal with the matter as I was receiving no response from my private banker I was told that there was an outstanding amount of R7 on the account. This amount would never have gone through had the account been closed as instructed. I was merely testing whether the account was still open. I am livid.

I now have to settle my R7 with interest incurred and then phone back and hold for ages to cancel a credit card that if instructions had been followed would have been closed ages ago.
