Don't want to payout my claim

I called Miway on the 14th November and requested that they cancel my policy as at end of November 2013. I was advised that I would have to payout a pro-rata fee and have cover till 13th December because I needed to give Miway a months' notice before cancelling a policy. When I questioned this I was advised that it could to which I neither approved nor disproved and I was advised by the consultant that I would be debited the pro-rata fee on the 20th November (to which I reluctantly agreed) but this didn't happen.

On the 29th November I submitted a claim for hail damage and they (Miway) subsequently wrote my car off but now they do not want to pay me out stating that my policy had already been cancelled.
