RCS
Data Validation of Cellphone Numbers on Websites

Business & Finance

Although I mention RCS here, they are not the only company that is guilty of this oversight.

I got a new cellphone number from CellC about 7 months ago which starts with 061.

I constantly come across websites (in the latest case RCS), which does data validation against my cellphone number and then responds that my number is not valid.

If a company do not keep their database of possible numbers updated, then why are they doing data validation against those numbers and preventing a person from completing an application. The result is irritation on the part of the customer and a failed transaction on the part of the supplier when their is no way of bypassing a incorrect cellphone validation check.

Come on guys! After (at least) 7 months that this number range is in circulation, surely your system must have tens (if not hundreds of failed applications on the mobile number field). Should this not ring a bell that something is wrong? Also I am sure that I am not the only person with one of these numbers who got irritated by this.

Your helpdesk recommends I go into a store to complete my application. Could they not just have made a call to add a number prefix to your database?
