First National Bank
Penalized for investing with FNB

Business & Finance

I opened a FNB Flexi Fixed Deposit account by mistake. Quite simply, if you follow the logic of their website without investigating every single button available, it leads you to think that the "flexi" part of the name is just part of the product name. I apparently need a normal Fixed deposit account. All I want to do is change the brand new Flexi account into the fixed account - the same time period, the same amount (R10k). Yet somehow I must cancel the 4 day old Flexi Fixed account, suffer R750 penalty fees, and re-open a new account?
FNB, you aren't losing the business? I don't understand how I can have penalty fees if ALL I want to do is change the account type. You haven't paid me a cent of interest or accrued ANY costs on your part whatsoever, and the account is less than seven days old?
Can someone at FNB help me convert this account without treating me like I've done something horrendously wrong?
