I need a second opinion please!

Business & Finance

I recently changed banks from FNB to Stanadrd Bank after 5 years using FNB as I was hoping I would get a better banking service. Four months down the line on Saturday 30 November I went to the bank just find out if I qualify for any type of credit. The lady who assisted me just said if you are on passport you don't qualify for credit of any sort, except general banking. Please confirm this is true. From there I went to enquiries as I was having problems opening my email bank statement. I have been getting my bank statement via email and they require a password. Since I'm using passport it wouldn't open my bank statements as per email they send with the bank statement. Matsepo from enquiries told me that my passport number wont work as I need an ID and the bank can't do anything about this and her colleagues confirmed this. Please confirm this is true. "Attached is your Standard Bank Current Account statement. To view it you will need to open the PDF attachment and insert your password. Your password is your South African ID number. If you do not have a South African ID number your password is your Passport number" Is Standard Bank this strict on foreigners?
