Unnecessary complicated procedure

I took out a funeral policy when a telesales person called me almost 4 years ago. They did not need any proof that I am who I say I am, a simple YES was enough to get money from me every month. I did not even ever receive any policy documents... Anyway, so I call them to cancel this thing, only to find out that I have to Fax them a letter requesting the cancellation, with a CERTIFIED copy of my ID which I have to sign 3 TIMES! SERIOUSLY!!! I was able to cancel life cover as well as 2 other policies with different companies yesterday over the telephone. Why can the same not be done with Metropolitan Life?
