Card division processes waste my time and money

I phoned FNB's card division prior to travelling overseas to authorise the use of my credit card overseas. I did this merely as a backup measure, as I had purchased a cash card and loaded forex onto that. However, I had to use my credit card because the forex people at FNB Willowbridge failed to activate the cash card I purchased properly, so that is useless to me. After making a couple of other purchases, including paying a large hotel bill, I then made a small purchase over the weekend. On Monday, I received an sms asking me to call and confirm whether the small weekend transaction was. Of course, I now had to make a call to South Africa from the USA at my cost using my cell phone at roaming rates to ensure that FNB didn't cancel my credit card (which card I desperately need due to the cash card I was sold not being activated properly). During the call, the teleperson click-click-clicked on the computer and said "oh, yes - you authorised this until the 31st of October". WHAT WAS THE POINT OF AUTHORISING THE CARD FOR USE OVERSEAS???
