Refuse to pay on insured goods

I called standard bank for insurance and they put me through to outand general. I ensured all my house hold contents with them. Was told that my cellphone had to be ensured separated which l did. In my house hold contents l have my personal laptop and ipad. The belonging where dtolen from my car and when l reported they told me that i should have ensured them separate. that information was never shared to me and l feel l am being taken for a ride. Why sell peopl insuarance and then when its time to pay out people dont pay out. I strongly believe l should be comnpensated for those items as they are part of the house hold contents
