INCIDENTAL CREDIT FEE???

Business & Finance

I don't have an overdraft on my cheque account by choice. Last month I wasn't aware of insufficient funds in my account when I made a card purchases. Instead of declining the transaction owing to insufficient funds, FNB allowed the transaction and then charged me a R57 'incidental credit fee' a few days later. I did not ask for any credit from FNB, if my account is overdrawn, then I simply expect my card to be rejected. Also the fee is exorbitant in relation to the amount overdrawn, and I would question its legality in terms of the National Credit Act.

I would like this fee to be returned to me and this not to happen again. Please also explain how, in terms of any account agreement I have with FNB, this is allowed. I will also be following up in terms of the NCA and the Consumer Protection Act. This is not the first time, this has happened for the past 3 months, even though FNB contacted me after my first complaint and said that it is now sorted out and it won't happen again.
