Huge discrepancy in excess

I am beyond appalled at the value of excess compared to other service providers, ie: a gap of R700.00!!! This is my first claim in terms of the loss of my cellphone (the 1st) and the excess is R 1050.00 whilst MTN is R300??? How can there be such a massive difference?? Who determined the cost of excess? This is beyond a rip-off - its blatant!! I am beyond words right now?

Is this legal???
