Customers lured to join but price then increased

Joined MiWay in March 2013 following a competitive quote. A condition of joining was that they would match my previous insurance nil excess. Six months later I receive a letter stating the excess is increasing to R3 300. The justification to the change, per their letter, is that "... MiWay clients with low excesses have claimed more oftern than expected." - I have not had a single claim on Miway since joining.

They also claim that the weakening of the exchange rate since the second half of 2012 has caused this rate increase - I was not a member in 2012 and their original rate they quoted me should have considered this.

All in all, they have no justification for increasing my excess and I believe this is their strategy - get customers to join and then change their terms after they have committed and hope they will not leave.

Several messages to Miway via e-mail and per telephone have been ignored, notwithstanding my promise to cancel unless the situation is restored. I also indicated I intend warning people of this unethical behaviour. When I changed 6 months ago, I forfeited my no-claim bonus and am now forced to return to my previous insurance and must start again.
