Additional Finance Charges Added to Account

After enquiring as to the settlement figue on my motor vehicle finance, MFC have now added an addiitonal R15.925.18 to my account three years into the finance period stating "initial finance charges" although my account is R7589.29 in credit. How is this possible, Am I now being penalised for running my account in a credit balance?
