ABSA threatens pensioners

Business & Finance

I am disgusted with the manner in which ABSA Credit Card Division treated my mother, a 79-year-old pensioner, upon her paying her credit card bill one day late for the first time in 39 years. An anonymous Credit Manager sent her a letter explaining all the terrible consequences that could befall her following her late payment, explaining how this non-payment of her account would be reported to the National Credit Bureau and emphasising the importance of paying one's account on time. She has had the card since 1974 and has NEVER missed a payment before - it was a difficult time for the family as my father had recently suffered a heart attack and she simply forgot to make the payment but duly made it the next day.
Has nobody at ABSA forgotten anything before? I can certainly say that they have forgotten to phone me back on a regular basis. I would like to know what kind of Credit Manager sends such a threatening letter to a person who has never missed any payment in 39 years? What is going on with your credit control, ABSA? Furthermore, this manager did not even have the courtesy of giving us his name - the letter simply has a scrawled, illegible signature with a number.
