ABSA Incompetency costing me

I was called by ABSA to inform me that my account is in arrears. I was advised to go to a branch and close the account. I first went into the San Ridge branch, where I was advised to keep the account open, until I pay off the outstanding fees. However, I closed the main account and was advised that ONLY what I owe the bank is what's required for me to pay. However, I was called later that week to inform me that my debit orders have gone through, on the account that I closed. I went to the Midrand branch by Boulders and I was attended by a lady named Lihle. She explained that the debits orders would be returned, and she would put a stop on my debits and I will ONLY have to pay - R 1600 that I owe to ABSA. I, in-turn deposited R1500.00. The statement showed then that I owe -R160.00. After lodging an unanswered complaint on the ABSA website, i received an SMS to pay my account. After going into the branch today, I was informed that I now still owe Absa - R1500.00. Which are bank charges, and bounced debits. I asked but how is that possible if I put a STOP on the debits on my account. I was told to go back to the Midrand branch and find out. I'm been given the run around
