First National Bank
Purchasing electricity via FNB mobile App

Business & Finance

I bought some prepaid electricity via the FNB banking app and was issued with a voucher.

Turns out the voucher was not valid for my meter (though the app accepted my meter number)

The short version is there was a similar meter number in the system but for a meter in Mossel bay not cape Town. FNB are passing the buck saying they are not responsible and that I should persue EasyPay their third party supplier.

I bought in confidence from them and they should rectify my problem, almost 2 months and more than 1000 ZAR in calls still no refund, shame on you FNB. Their official response:

Dear Mr Wagner

This is the process as to how our prepaid services work via the App.

FNB serves as an intermediary between the client and Eskom, the same as a shop would serve as an intermediary between the customer and Eskom.

Client purchases electricity through the intermediary (FNB), the intermediary "pays" Eskom and Eskom provides the intermediary with a voucher number. As per the example that I previously mentioned and that I was given, if you purchase electricity at a shop and when you get home the voucher number is invalid, you cannot go back to the shop and ask for your money back.
